About Rose Hill
The Most Beautiful Plantation Home in the South
The historic Rose Hill Mansion has long held a treasured place in Southern history. Known as the most beautiful plantation house in the Lowcountry, it was built in the late 1850s by planter and physician Dr. John Kirk and his wife Caroline. Originally left unfinished, it survived the Civil War, years of neglect, and a 1987 fire that devasted the inside, before finally achieving complete renovation within the past decade. Today the house is a private residence, but on the principle that such a magnificent historical landmark is too good to keep hidden, the first floor and grounds have traditionally been opened to the public.
Due to recent changes at the residence, many of the items that have decorated Rose Hill over the past several years are being sold at auction along with collections from other local collectors and dealers.
